Keeping Lips Safe from the Sun

A Dental Focus on Cancer in the Sun Month
Although the lips are commonly forgotten during the sunscreen application process, protecting them is just as important as protecting the rest of our skin from the sun. The skin cancer foundation recommends wearing lip balm with an SPF of 15 or higher for the best protective measure. For maximum protection, reapply every two hours during exposure to the sun. Also, it is best to avoid lip stick or lip gloss that adds shine to the lips. Products like these can actually absorb more harmful UV rays than it protects. Ask your dentist any questions you have about protecting your lips from the sun.
