Treatment of Bruxism

A Dental Focus on The Daily Grind
Bruxism, or the involuntary grinding and clenching of teeth, is something your dentist can help you treat. The main goal in treating bruxism is to train the patient to relax the tongue, lips and jaw. In minor bruxism cases, many patients are able to change their behavior by consciously resting the tongue and opening the lips slightly. In other cases, a night guard to help prevent damage to the teeth may be the best answer. Many bruxism cases begin with stress, frustration, or anger, so many treatment options include relaxation techniques to help the patient less likely to clench or grind teeth. Talk with your dentist today if you have questions about the treatment of bruxism.
