Basics of Oral Cancer

A Dental Focus on Cancer Awareness Month
Oral cancer is a very common form of cancer. Unfortunately there are about 35,000 new cases diagnosed every year here in the United States. The risk is highest for those over 50 years of age who smoke and drink. Excessive exposure to the sun has been known to lead to oral cancer as well. However, 25f those who are diagnosed with oral cancer have no risk factors at all. This means that every adult should be screened for oral cancer on a routine basis. Oral Cancer detected early enough gives the patient the best chance for survival. Ask your dentist for a thorough oral cancer screening or for more information.
