Resolve to Avoid Tobacco

A Dental Focus on New Year's Resolution for Oral Health
One main thing to steer clear from is any type of tobacco product. The Academy of General Dentistry reports that a one-pack-a-day smoking habit can cost you the loss of at least two teeth every 10 years. About 440,000 Americans die from various types of tobacco use each year, the majority being from oral cancer. Chewing tobacco is no better than cigarettes, as it can cause bad breath, discolor teeth, and promote tooth decay. Spit tobacco can be even more addictive because it contains higher levels of nicotine. If you currently use tobacco make a resolution to quit. Ask your dentist or health care provider for more information.
