Tips: Protecting the Heart and Mouth

A Dental Focus on American Heart Month
Protecting your heart health and oral health is very important, especially for those with an existing heart condition. Brushing and flossing regularly to remove plaque that you can't see below the gum line is most important. If you remove the plaque, you minimize the chance for getting gum disease. Remember to schedule regular checkups too. Also, always inform your dentist if you suffer from any heart condition. Explain to your dentist the nature of your problem and if it is under control. Be sure to list all medications you are taking. Also, be sure to speak with your physician about your dental care and treatment so that each of your health care providers fully understand the situation.
